About Us
Restoration & Renovation of Monumental Apartments in the old city centre of The HagueThe Fundatie Voorhoeve strives to restore the monumental apartments around the canal to their original glory whilst simultaneously renovating the apartments so that they can provide modern fully-furnished housing to expats, diplomats and others in need of short and long term accommodation. Every year we renovate an average of 3 - 6 apartments. The office at the Van Balckeneynde House is a golden landmark in the area. It was the original home of the palace architect Claes Dircx van Balckeneynde who also designed Paleis Noordeinde, Paleis ten Bosch and the house of the prime minister: Het Catshuis.

HistoryThe Fundatie Voorhoeve was established in 1876. Back then, the Fundatie mainly operated as a publisher of Christian literature. During the 1950's and 60's, the Fundatie acquired several buildings around the canal in order to preserve their unique and historic character.
The Canal and its ResidentsThe Dunne Bierkade used to be the border of The Hague until the late 1800's, where the other side of the canal comprised of a beautiful scenery of fields and meadows. Many landscape painters lived at the Dunne Bierkade and were inspired by the city and its surroundings. The famous painters Jan van Goyen, Paulus Potter and Jan Steen lived here.
