Summer in the City of Justice

Warmer Weather

With this amazing weather, it is good to know that The Hague does not only offer unique beaches (e.g. Scheveningen Beach and Kijkduin) but the city also has many nice parks (including an age old forest).

Beaches

Getting to the beach is easy. Tram nr 1 will bring you to Scheveningen Beach in less than 20 minutes.

With the sun slowly sinking below the horizon of the North Sea, spending a summer evening here can be pure bliss. The beach has plenty of beach clubs, numerous restaurants and something to eat or drink for everyone's liking, Going for a stroll along the waterside or even going for a quick dive into the (cold) sea followed by soaking up the (hot) sun whilst laying on a beach towel are one of the many ways to enjoy a day of summer in The Hague.

Parks

If you don't want to go all the way to the beach (or you are simply not in favour of anything to do with sand), you can get out of tram nr. 1 halfway in order to savour a day in the great outdoors.

Because here you can go for a walk or picnic in the Westbroekpark, the Scheveningse Bosjes, the Waterpartij or Park Sorghvliet.
Or you could simply take bus nr. 18 from the city centre and you can go straight to
Park Clingendael and the monumental landscape park Oosterbeek.

Primeval Forest

Also, within walking distance from your apartment is the Haagse Bos (the Forest of The Hague). In fact, this is one of the oldest remaining forests of The Netherlands. Originally, the Haagse Bos was a section of a vaste and age-old primeval forest. This was simply called Die Hout (The Woods). The title eventually gave way to the name Houtland or Holtland (which literally means "wood lands") and later became Holland. From this original forest only the Haagse Bos remains, and two traffic roads even cut it into three parts nowadays.

Nonetheless the remains are fascinating. Age old trees, ponds, small wooden bridges, romantic vistas and landscape views, sunny meadows, birds singing in the trees, ducks and even swans swimming in the ponds. And there’s also a Royal Palace in the middle of the forest, called Huis ten Bosch (“House in the Forest).  The ideal place to spend the day over a warm weekend or just on an ordinary evening amidst a busy schedule.

The real diehards will go to the Waterleidingduinen (the dunes), a National Park where you can walk for hours or go for a serious bike ride.

The Hague, a great city to live in!
